Advice on neutering my male rabbit?

Tomorrow I have to take my 10 month old to get neutered at 9:30 am. I was instructed to take his food away from him the night before (tonight) at 8:00 pm. I'm going to put towels in his cage while he heals. Because I have pine bedding for him in the cage all the time but I don't want it to irritate the wound. But what I'm wondering is what I should be looking for? Signs of him doing good or bad? Can I pick him up? How long will it take for him to be able to be let out of his cage? Any other things I should do to help him be comfortable? PLEASE tell me! Thanks!
